One At A Time
Each day an old man walked along the beach, picking up starfish, that had been washed up on the shore by the tide, and threw them back into the sea..
One day a young boy stopped the old man and asked Why do you throw the Starfish back into the sea? It dosent matter. They will only wash up on the shore tomorrow. The Old Man bent over, picked up another and threw it as far as he could into the sea, and replied... it made a difference to that one.

Our Mission Statement
The Humane Society of Scott County Indiana is an all volunteer, Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization, designed to aid the Scott County Animal Shelter:
.... Promote an aggressive Spay/Neuter program in order to decrease the number of animals being euthanized in the county.
.... Adoption of shelter animals to qualified adopters.
.... Release shelter animals into the care of reputable rescue organizations
... Promote and educate, responsible pet ownership through out the county.
About Us
The Organization was formed by a group of concerned citizens in Scott County and the surrounding area in early 2007 who have a positive and exciting approach to helping Scott County's homeless animals. Working in a cooperative manner with the Scott County Animal Shelter, the humane society has been able to find homes for close to 200 animals in 2007 , 650 in 2008 another 650 in 2009, and 605 in 2010 through adoption and rescue.
During the four years since the organization's formation, contacts have been made with rescue groups and dogs and cats are transported to rescue organizations on a weekly basis, through out the region. Volunteers shuttle groups of animals through what we call the "underground railroad" as far as Chicago and the Wisconsin area, to responsible rescue groups who hold adoption fairs at various local locations including PetSmart and Petco. The animals are fully vetted prior to adoption and the groups thoroughly qualify the adopter to make sure the new home is a "forever home" and a good match. If you enjoy driving, we could use your help for trips to various locations through out the region.
We hold adoption fairs, three weekends of each month to adopt animals and special adoption events are held within the community. Currently we are going to locations such as PetSmart in Clarksville IN, Petco in Columbus IN. and Pet Sense located in Seymour, IN. We are always needing volunteers to help with these events.
A monthly Spay/Neuter SNIP program is offered where dogs and cats from the community can be altered for a reduced cost and animals from the shelter are also fixed.
The Humane Society has monthly meetings and all are encouraged to attend and explore the many opportunities and become a part of us.
